Finnish Ambassador visits Ardhi University.

On the 15th December 2020, the Finnish ambassador in Tanzania Mrs. Riitta Swan paid a courtesy visit to Ardhi University where she met Ardhi University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Evaristo Liwa and his assistants.

Ambassador Riitta Swan was accompanied by Prof. Niina Kayko, a Professor of Geospatial Research from the University of Turku, Finland

Prof. Niina is leading a project “ GeoICT4e –Social Innovations in Geo-ICT education at Tanzania HEIs for improved employability” being implemented by a consortium of 8 Universities three from Finland and Five in Tanzania.

The project aimed at capacity building of both academic staff and students at Tanzanian Universities in the area of digital geospatial skills which are fundamental in solving and impacting societal challenges.

Other experts who attended the meeting are Prof. Gabriel Kassenga, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Prof. Mdemu, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Planning, Finance and Administration, Dr. Senkondo, The Director of Postgraduate Studies, Research and Publications, Dr. Beatrice Christopher, the Head of Department of Geospatial Sciences and Technology and Dr. Zakaria Ngereja, ARU GeoICT4e Coordinator.

The discussion on the meeting focussed on collaboration and linkages between Finish and Tanzania Universities in the area of capacity building in geospatial digital skills. The Geo-ICT4e project is funded by the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, The University of Turku of Finland being the Coordinator of the Project.
